Patriotic League of Uganda asks Electoral Commission to reserve name for proposed political party

Election Related Verified Uganda (national) 9 Oct 2026 Severity: 1/5

The Patriotic League of Uganda, a pressure group, wrote to Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama asking it to reserve the name, colours, symbol and slogan of a proposed party, the Patriotic League of Uganda Movement, under the Political Parties and Organisations Act. The EC spokesperson said he had not seen the application; an FDC official questioned the involvement of the Chief of Defence Forces, whom critics describe as the group's leader.

A national event, not tied to one district.
