Patriotic League of Uganda launches signature drive backing Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for 2031 presidency

According to the Daily Monitor, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a pressure group aligned with the NRM, announced a nationwide campaign seeking 20 million signatures to support its chairman, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for the presidency in 2031. PLU General Secretary Twala Fadil told a press briefing that endorsement books were being distributed to districts, sub-counties and parishes, and warned against people demanding money from the public for registration numbers. The paper notes that Gen Muhoozi is the serving Chief of Defence Forces and cites constitutional and UPDF Act provisions requiring the army to be non-partisan and serving officers to retire before seeking political office.
