Patriotic League of Uganda withdraws endorsement of Among and Tayebwa for Speaker and Deputy Speaker

In a statement dated 12 May 2026 signed by Secretary General Daudi Kabanda, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) withdrew its 11 March endorsement of Anita Among and Thomas Tayebwa for Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament, citing guidance from its chairman, Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. The statement asked PLU MPs-elect to back candidates to be presented by President Museveni. ChimpReports reports that Gen Muhoozi had posted messages on X distancing himself from the endorsement and criticising corruption.
