Police disperse NUP campaign rally in Butenga, Bukomansimbi, with teargas and shots in the air

According to The Independent, police led by Bukomansimbi District Police Commander Manisur Sowedi broke up a joint NUP campaign rally at Kawoko playground in Butenga Sub County as a former NRM mobiliser who had defected to NUP was speaking. When supporters tried to stop officers from picking up the defectors, police fired teargas and live bullets in the air and roughed up two of them, the paper reported. Woman MP Veronica Nanyondo said the meeting had police clearance and called the dispersal political persecution; the police commander declined to comment.
