Civic Space & Media Freedom Verified Uganda (national) 12 Jan 2026 Severity: 2/5

According to the Daily Monitor, police in the Wamala Police Region, covering Mityana, Mubende and Kyankwanzi districts, began taking down national flags that NUP supporters had reportedly put up on buildings and other structures ahead of the elections. Regional police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi said the flags had been displayed without ministerial authorisation, some in places he said demeaned them, and warned that people who misuse state symbols would be prosecuted.

A national event, not tied to one district.
