Police say national flag use is regulated by law amid NUP campaign flag displays

Civic Space & Media Freedom Verified Uganda (national) 29 Dec 2025 Severity: 2/5

Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said, according to the Daily Monitor, that use of the national flag is regulated by the National Flag and Armorial Ensigns Act, 1962, following widespread display of the flag by NUP supporters during campaigns. He said police currently prioritise public sensitisation over prosecution; NUP and several lawyers said carrying the flag breaks no law.

A national event, not tied to one district.
