President Museveni pardons businessman serving sentence for 2015 murder

President Yoweri Museveni used his prerogative of mercy to pardon a jailed businessman convicted over the 2015 kidnapping and murder of a businesswoman, according to The Independent. Uganda Prisons Service spokesperson Frank Baine said the pardon is contained in a presidential communique dated 21 February 2026 and gave no further details. The Court of Appeal had reduced the man's sentence from 40 years to just over 18 years in 2021.
