President Museveni postpones 3 June Uganda Martyrs Day over Ebola outbreak in eastern DR Congo

Policy & Legislation Verified Uganda (national) 17 May 2026 Severity: 2/5

President Museveni announced in a statement on Sunday evening that the annual Uganda Martyrs Day, normally held on 3 June, was postponed to a date still to be announced. He said the decision followed consultation with the national epidemic response task force and religious leaders, because thousands of pilgrims usually travel from eastern DR Congo, where an Ebola outbreak is under way. He asked pilgrims already on the way to go back home.

A national event, not tied to one district.
