Presidential candidates tell Electoral Commission two-month campaign period is too short

Election Related Single source Uganda (national) 5 Nov 2020 Severity: 1/5

At a Thursday meeting with the Electoral Commission to harmonise campaign schedules, presidential candidates and their agents said the roughly 60-day campaign was insufficient to cover 146 districts given the COVID-19 ban on mass rallies and a 70-person limit on meetings. Independent candidate Nancy Kalembe Linda and Alex Luganda, agent of Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde, raised the concerns; Luganda also asked the Commission to seek a curfew waiver for candidates' travel at night. According to Luganda, the Commission promised to respond after harmonising the schedules.

A national event, not tied to one district.
