Secretary to the Judiciary tells PAC that UGX54 billion in bail deposits and court securities remains unclaimed

Appearing before Parliament's Public Accounts Committee on the Auditor General's 2024/2025 report, Secretary to the Judiciary Pius Bigirimana said over UGX54 billion in bail deposits and court securities remains unclaimed, of which about UGX24 billion is cleared for refund. He said the Judiciary had set up a committee to speed up refunds and was considering publishing claimants' names. PAC members, including Deputy Chairperson Gorreth Namugga, criticised the Judiciary for not informing citizens of their right to refunds.
