According to the Daily Monitor, Jimmy Nambiro, head of the State House Education Desk, said the crackdown on illegal fees in government-aided schools by the Education Desk and Anti-Corruption Unit is nationwide, after Bugisu leaders said it targeted their sub-region. Nambiro said preliminary investigations indicated head teachers were collecting extra charges and some had inflated enrolment figures; Mbale leaders, including Industrial Division Mayor Muhamood Masaaba, criticised arrests of head teachers as victimisation.
A national event, not tied to one district.
