Trade ministry and Busoga sugar millers agree UGX 125,000 minimum price per ton of sugarcane

According to ChimpReports, a meeting of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, the Sugar Industry Stakeholders Council and six Busoga sugar millers agreed a minimum sugarcane price of UGX 125,000 per ton across Busoga for two months, pending a review by the sugar council. Minister Francis Mwebesa said the ministry had received complaints from out-growers about low prices, which farmers said had fallen to as little as UGX 90,000 per ton.
