In a post on the Ministry of Finance's X account, Secretary to the Treasury Ramathan Ggoobi said that from the 2026/27 financial year the government would stop funding most public holiday celebrations, keeping funds only for a few religious observances. He said the President would address the nation by broadcast instead and the savings would go to wealth creation programmes.
