UCC rules split-screen advertising banned during TV news and current affairs programmes

Policy & Legislation Verified Uganda (national) 27 Jan 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to the Daily Monitor, the Uganda Communications Commission, in a decision delivered by Executive Director Nyombi Thembo, ruled that split-screen advertising, including 'squeeze back' adverts, is prohibited during news and current affairs programmes under the Advertising Standards 2019. The ruling followed a complaint by Adlegal International Limited against a local television station, and UCC directed all TV stations to stop the practice immediately.

A national event, not tied to one district.
