Uganda Law Society calls for inquiry into prosecutorial lapses after Itungo acquittal

Policy & Legislation Verified Uganda (national) 24 Oct 2025 Severity: 1/5

In a statement dated 24 October 2025, the Uganda Law Society said Joram Itungo's acquittal was a lawful outcome and attributed the failed case to weaknesses in the investigation and prosecution. The society called for an independent Commission of Inquiry into what it described as prosecutorial abuse by the ODPP, asked the ODPP and police to review how the case was approved, and cautioned officials against directives that could be seen as influencing court outcomes.

A national event, not tied to one district.
