Uganda Law Society files East African Court of Justice case against suspension of ten NGOs

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Uganda (national) Mar 2026 (day not reported) Severity: 1/5

The Uganda Law Society has filed a Reference at the East African Court of Justice seeking to have the NGO Bureau's indefinite suspension of ten organisations declared unlawful and void, and an order to lift it, according to the Daily Monitor. The Society argues the suspension violates the EAC Treaty, Uganda's Constitution and rights to association, and says its 18 February letter to the Bureau went unanswered. Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka said his office would respond within the 45 days allowed.

A national event, not tied to one district.
