Uganda Law Society questions appointments of Deputy Chief Justice and Chief Registrar amid pending JSC challenges

Policy & Legislation Single source Uganda (national) 15 May 2026 Severity: 1/5

The Uganda Law Society, in a statement by vice president Anthony Asiimwe, raised concerns about the appointment of Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as Deputy Chief Justice and Agnes Alum as Chief Registrar while constitutional cases challenging the composition of the Judicial Service Commission are pending. The ULS said the commission lacks its nominated representatives and that the appointments risk legal challenge, and asked the courts to hear the pending cases urgently.
