Uganda Governance Monitor
According to ChimpReports, unnamed senior security and diplomatic sources said Ugandan authorities have decided to declare Vanguard Africa founder Jeffrey Smith and lawyer Robert Amsterdam persona non grata, accusing them of interference, lobbying against development financing and seeking sanctions and ICC referrals against Ugandan officials. A source said the two would be arrested if they entered Uganda. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was reported to be expected to communicate the decision formally; the two have previously described their work as lawful human rights advocacy.
A national event, not tied to one district.
Disputed: Ugandan officials accuse Smith and Amsterdam of subversion and economic sabotage, while the two have publicly maintained that their advocacy is lawful and rooted in human rights norms.
