The UPDF, through its Acting Director of Defence Public Information Col. Chris Magezi, announced that 1,591 personnel of all ranks would retire in August 2026, among them former Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Katumba Wamala and several other generals. According to URN, the personnel comprise 19 general officers, 222 senior officers, 205 junior officers and 1,364 militants, with a ceremony for senior officers set for 12 August at Mbuya.
