US designates Tanzanian police commander over alleged torture of Ugandan activist Agather Atuhaire and Kenyan Boniface M

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Tanzanian Police Force Senior Assistant Commissioner Faustine Jackson Mafwele had been designated under Section 7031(c), barring him from entering the United States. According to the statement, the designation rests on credible information that he was involved in gross human rights violations, citing the detention, torture and sexual assault of Ugandan activist Agather Atuhaire and Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi in Dar es Salaam a year earlier. Atuhaire welcomed the decision on X.
