Wamala Region police ban fuel sales in containers and parking at filling stations ahead of polls

Policy & Legislation Verified Uganda (national) 12 Jan 2026 Severity: 1/5

Police in Wamala Region suspended the sale of petrol and other flammable products to people carrying bottles, jerry cans and similar containers, and advised owners not to park vehicles at fuel stations, in a statement dated 12 January by regional police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi. Police said the measure followed a threat assessment over risks during a politically tense election period; the Daily Monitor reports that some drivers and residents in Mityana Town criticised the move.

A national event, not tied to one district.
