Witnesses tell court Lwengo Woman MP Namujju bribed voters; Namujju opens defence in election petition

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Uganda (national) 26 Sep 2026 Severity: 1/5

In the petition by former independent candidate Sarah Muwonge Nkonge against Lwengo District Woman MP Cissy Namujju, former district chairperson George Mutabaazi told Justice Rosette Comfort Kania that a man he arrested for handing out money at a polling station on 15 January was released on Namujju's orders. Other petitioner witnesses alleged bribery with money, food, hoes, tents and chairs. Namujju denied the accusations, and her lawyer said the hoes came from a government programme.

A national event, not tied to one district.
