World Bank writes to Parliament criticising Uganda's Protection of Sovereignty Bill

International Actions Verified Uganda (national) 23 Apr 2026 Severity: 1/5

According to the Daily Monitor, the World Bank Group sent a letter dated April 23 to Parliament's joint committee scrutinising the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, warning that its wording could criminalise policy dialogue with development partners. Parliament's Director of Communication, Chris Obore, responded that feedback was welcome and that the law would recognise the World Bank's interests without undermining Uganda's national interests.

A national event, not tied to one district.
