According to ChimpReports, the Electoral Commission, in a letter dated 23 October 2025 signed by Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, reversed the Returning Officer's nomination of Igara West MP Louis Gafa Mbwatekamwa as an independent candidate for Mbarara City Mayor. The Commission, acting on a complaint filed in September, found he had not proved ordinary residence in Mbarara City as the Local Governments Act requires. Mbwatekamwa said he would not appeal the decision.
