Health minister Kawooya orders suspension of dental surgeon during visit to Arua Regional Referral Hospital

During an oversight visit to Arua Regional Referral Hospital, Minister of State for Health (General Duties) Anifa Kawooya was filmed ordering the immediate suspension of a senior dental surgeon whom she accused of keeping his hands in his pockets while speaking to her, according to the Daily Monitor. The Uganda Medical Association condemned the suspension, saying a minister is not a disciplinary authority for civil servants and that the action ignored due process under the Constitution and the Public Service Standing Orders.
