Policy & Legislation Single source Mbarara 16 Mar 2026 Severity: 3/5

According to The Independent, Mbarara City South Division officials led an operation that removed street vendors from shop fronts and arcade corridors in the city centre, following a 14-day ultimatum to relocate to gazetted markets. Officials said vendors who defy the eviction risk prosecution and that over 5,000 market stalls would be allocated; evicted vendors said no relocation arrangements had been made and that kiosk extensions were broken.
