Museveni says army will stay on lakes, orders return of confiscated fishing gear, in Buliisa

Campaigning in Buliisa District, President and NRM candidate Yoweri Museveni said UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit soldiers would not be withdrawn from water bodies despite fishermen's complaints of intimidation. According to the Daily Monitor, he directed that fishing gear and other property confiscated by soldiers be returned without fees from the following day, with Maj Gen Daniel Kakono overseeing the exercise, and said soldiers who had abused their authority would be punished.
