NUP aspirant Osbert Kato's nomination for Ruhinda North rejected, leaving Deputy Speaker Tayebwa unopposed

Electoral Malpractice Single source Mitooma 23 Oct 2025 Severity: 2/5

Osbert Kato, a National Unity Platform aspirant for Ruhinda North Constituency, told ChimpReports that Electoral Commission officials blocked his nomination on the final nomination day, querying his supporters' National Identification Numbers while Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa was nominated during a lunch break. A written explanation from officials cited missing academic documents, wrong NINs and no proof of payment; Kato also alleged that security personnel seized the NUP Mitooma District Chairperson's phone and deleted footage. NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi condemned the episode as deliberate political suppression.
