Soroti RDC halts activity on Arapai land disputed by UBC and NFA after harmonisation meeting

Environmental Issues Disputed Soroti 8 Sep 2025 Severity: 1/5

At a harmonisation meeting called by Soroti RDC Hajji Imran Muluga at the district headquarters, the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation and the National Forestry Authority set out competing claims to about 374.8 acres in Arapai, with NFA saying the land lies within Odudui Central Forest Reserve and UBC citing its land title. According to The Observer, the land also includes 224.88 acres the President directed be given to the NGO Pilgrim Africa, and the RDC ordered both bodies to stop activity on the land until technical teams report.

Disputed: UBC says it holds a valid title to the land and NFA encroached on about 50 acres, while NFA says the land is part of a gazetted central forest reserve and the UBC title was processed irregularly.
