UPDF Marine Battalion destroys 5,780 illegal fishing nets in Kwania District

The UPDF Marine Battalion destroyed 5,780 illegal fishing nets, valued at about Shs1.8 billion, that had been seized more than a month earlier in a joint operation with the Kwania District Fisheries Department, according to URN. Representatives of the district's 11 landing site committees later agreed at Atuma Barracks on measures including a total ban on monofilament nets and prosecution of those using prohibited gear.
