The UPDF 155 Marine Battalion publicly destroyed confiscated illegal fishing gear, valued at Shs19.7 billion and gathered over three months, in a court-sanctioned exercise at Lukooma Landing Site, according to the Daily Monitor. The Buvuma sector commander, Lt Emmanuel Nuwamanya, said the unit would now target the financiers and gear suppliers behind illegal fishing, while fishing committees and officers alleged interference by local leaders seeking release of arrested suspects.
