According to the Daily Monitor, the government replaced police with UPDF soldiers in Nsowe Central Forest Reserve to end clashes between herders known as Balaalo and licensed tree planters, who accuse the herders of destroying seedlings and assaulting workers. The herders say they have customary claims to the land and were forcefully evicted, and the Resident District Commissioner said evictions of illegal grazers have been prioritised; he also said the deployment was made without consulting him.
