16-year-old dies in Gulu; Kyagulanyi blames security forces, police blame four youths

A 16-year-old student died at Lacor Hospital on 9 December 2025 from injuries sustained in Gulu. NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi said the teenager was hurt when police, soldiers and plain-clothed men armed with sticks and machetes dispersed his supporters at a campaign event on 6 December. Gulu City police rejected this, saying the boy was beaten in Lailong early on 7 December by four youths who accused him of stealing a phone, and that the suspects are being sought.
