Adjumani West parliamentary by-election held with low morning turnout

Election Related Verified Adjumani 16 Sep 2026 Severity: 1/5

Voting in the Adjumani West by-election, called after the death of Gen Moses Ali, started late at some polling stations because too few voters had arrived to witness the opening of ballot boxes, according to the Daily Monitor. Two candidates, James Leku Pili (NRM) and Gaspar Draga (Independent), contested; observer and Uganda Human Rights Commissioner Crispin Kaheru said voting was peaceful and noted that only the NRM candidate had agents across all 114 polling stations.
