Fort Portal City authorities begin evicting street vendors from pavements and walkways

Policy & Legislation Verified Fort Portal City 16 Mar 2026 Severity: 2/5

The Independent reports that Fort Portal City authorities began removing street vendors from pavements and walkways in ungazetted areas, enforcing a trade order passed by the City Council after a 5 March notice from the City Town Clerk. Officials said vendors would be offered space in gazetted markets and that those who return to the streets face arrest and prosecution. Some vendors said they could not afford market stall rents and had nowhere to go.
