High Court bars Igara Growers Tea Factory from confirming new directors; police disperse shareholders' meeting

Justice & Court Rulings Disputed Bushenyi 16 Oct 2025 Severity: 1/5

Justice Simon Peter Kinobe of the High Court signed an interim order on 16 October restraining Igara Growers Tea Factory in Bushenyi District from confirming directors-elect at its general meeting pending Company Cause No. 36 of 2025. According to Nile Post, the outgoing chairman halted the meeting on 17 October and police dispersed shareholders, who then met at a nearby church and formed an interim management committee, whose authority the outgoing chairman rejected.

Disputed: Shareholders say the order restrained only the confirmation of directors, not the whole meeting, while outgoing chairman Sam Muhereza says the interim committee has no legal authority.
