Protest & Civil Unrest Verified Bushenyi 16 Mar 2026 Severity: 2/5

Workers at Igara Growers Tea Factory Limited began a sit-down strike that halted operations, saying they had not been paid since November, the Daily Monitor reports. A tea sector trade union official said the factory had not remitted NSSF contributions since 2022, exceeding Shs1.6 billion, and gave management and the board a 14-day ultimatum; the Bushenyi District labour officer said leaders would meet the board.
