Inter-Religious Council visits Kyagulanyi's Magere home amid heavy security presence

Civic Space & Media Freedom Verified Wakiso 20 Jan 2026 Severity: 2/5

An Inter-Religious Council of Uganda delegation led by Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba visited Robert Kyagulanyi's home at Magere, where security personnel questioned them before letting them in, the Daily Monitor reports. Kyagulanyi's wife, Barbie Itungo, told the clerics the family had been barred from leaving, visitors including relatives and media were turned away, and her husband had fled on Saturday; the IRCU said it was still verifying the claims.
