Residents of Kamusegu Trading Centre said about 12 men in police uniform raided a cinema hall where people were watching a football match on Wednesday night, beat residents with electric wires and sticks and took money from some of them. A retired UPDF soldier was found dead in his room the next morning, and residents suspect he died from injuries sustained in the beating; the body was taken to Kagadi General Hospital for a postmortem. The Albertine South regional police spokesperson dismissed the allegations, saying police do not attack or rob people.
Disputed: Residents and alleged victims say uniformed police beat and robbed them and suspect the beating caused the death, while the Bwikara police post denied knowledge of any operation and the regional police spokesperson dismissed the allegations.
