Uganda Law Society petitions Kasangati court over security siege at Kyagulanyi home

Civic Space & Media Freedom Verified Wakiso 16 Mar 2026 Severity: 1/5

The Uganda Law Society filed a petition in the Chief Magistrate's Court in Kasangati, naming the Attorney General as respondent, over the deployment of armed personnel at the home of NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi. The society sought the immediate withdrawal of the personnel, an end to surveillance and a permanent injunction against interference with the family's liberty. ULS president Isaac Ssemakadde said the deployment amounted to a de facto house arrest without due process.
