Voter and presiding officer arrested over pre-marked ballots at Gihora Polling Station, Nyakinama Sub-county, Kisoro

Electoral Malpractice Verified Kisoro 22 Jan 2026 Severity: 2/5

Kigezi regional police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said residents held a voter who stayed unusually long in the booth at Gihora Polling Station, and a polling constable found him with 10 ballot papers, eight already marked, mostly for the NRM candidate for Nyakinama Sub-county LC5 councillor. According to police, the voter said the presiding officer had given him the ballots, and the presiding officer was then arrested. The rival independent incumbent councillor said he would challenge the result in court.
