Voters at Gulu City polling station protest plastic buckets used in place of ballot boxes

Election Related Single source Gulu 22 Jan 2026 Severity: 2/5

According to The Independent, voters at Limu Medical Flats polling station in Laroo-Pece Division protested after Electoral Commission officials delivered ballot boxes without covers and later brought locally bought plastic buckets as substitutes, delaying voting beyond 11:00 a.m. The local LC I chairperson said the station also lacked basins for voters, and agents threatened a boycott before security and local leaders calmed tensions. The Gulu City Returning Officer said the missing covers had been left in a distribution vehicle and the buckets were sent as a backup.
