Speaking to journalists at the family home in Kasangati, Winnie Byanyima said her husband Kizza Besigye is being held under military control at Luzira because he opposes what she described as a plan for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to succeed President Museveni. Deputy State House spokesperson Farouk Kirunda rejected the claims, saying the President has no role in the detention and that Besigye was lawfully charged; the UPDF did not respond, according to the Daily Monitor.
