Agents dispute results and security forces restore order at Kampala tally centre at MUBS

Election Related Single source Kampala 22 Jan 2026 Severity: 2/5

Tallying of the Kampala Lord Mayor and councillor results at Makerere University Business School was repeatedly interrupted overnight as candidates and agents protested that results being read did not match polling-station declaration forms, according to The Independent. Soldiers and police chased agents and candidates out of the Kawempe Division tent to restore order. An NUP agent alleged that Kawempe Division election officials read results from different forms and favoured NRM agents; the District Returning Officer said demands for polling-station-by-polling-station tallying had slowed the process.
