Apac Municipality Council enforces ban on unapproved fees and closes boarding sections in UPE schools

Apac Municipality Council began enforcing a ban on unapproved levies and closing informal boarding sections in government-aided primary schools, which the council says is meant to remove financial barriers to education. Headteachers and school management committees objected, saying schools depend on parental contributions and some have laid off staff and suspended projects, while Mayor Bonny McClean Odongo said only unauthorised levies are being curbed.
