Bbaale County MP Charles Tebandeke petitioned State House on 1 September, alleging that an investor who bought 100 acres in Butalabuna village was unlawfully evicting about 40 sitting tenants with the help of people in government, the Daily Monitor reports. The investor, Ms Penina Awori Mulindwa, called the claims baseless and said the land had no tenants when she bought it, while a Senior Presidential Assistant said the tenants had not produced ownership documents.
Disputed: The MP and tenants say the evictions are unlawful and that crops and houses were destroyed, while the investor says the land had no tenants when she bought it and denies any ministerial help.
