Besigye and Lutale legal representation application assigned to Civil Division Justice Kinobe

According to a letter dated 17 July 2026 reported by ChimpReports, the Principal Judge allocated the application by detained opposition leader Kizza Besigye and co-accused Obeid Lutale over their right to lawyers of their choice to Justice Simon Peter Kinobe of the High Court Civil Division. The judge set a schedule for written affidavits and submissions and fixed his ruling for 13 August 2026 without an oral hearing; ChimpReports notes the Judiciary has not explained why a Civil Division judge was assigned.
