Buganda Road court dismisses ULS president Ssemakadde's application to halt trial over remarks about Justice Abodo

Justice & Court Rulings Verified Kampala Date not reported · first reported 12 Jan 2026 Severity: 1/5

The Chief Magistrate's Court at Buganda Road dismissed an application by self-exiled Uganda Law Society president Isaac Kimaze Ssemakadde to stay criminal proceedings against him pending his constitutional petition. Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi ruled that the application was fatally defective because its supporting affidavit was sworn by a person who was not an enrolled advocate, and that filing a constitutional petition does not by itself stay a criminal trial. Ssemakadde is charged with indecently insulting a woman over remarks attributed to him about Justice Jane Frances Abodo when she was DPP.
