Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ritah Kidasa Neumbe ruled that a US extradition request for retired Lt Michael Katungi Mpeirwe met the requirements of Uganda's Extradition Act and committed him to prison pending a ministerial surrender order, ChimpReports reported. The US seeks to try him on drug trafficking, firearms and terrorism-support conspiracy charges, which have not been tested at trial. The court rejected his lawyers' objections, including a claim of diplomatic immunity.
