Busia RDC orders closure of two fish firms over licences and arrest of town agent

Corruption & Abuse of Office Disputed Busia 18 Sep 2026 Severity: 2/5

Busia Resident District Commissioner Hajira Namagogwe ordered the immediate closure of Yalelo and Rendalli fish companies, saying one had traded without a licence for three years and the other held a licence allegedly issued fraudulently. According to the Daily Monitor, she also ordered police to arrest a town agent whom the Town Clerk blamed for issuing the licence; the agent denied issuing it. A Rendalli official said the decisions were politically motivated and that the company might go to court or relocate to Kenya.

Disputed: The RDC and Town Clerk say the Rendalli licence was improperly issued by a town agent, who denies issuing it, while Rendalli says it holds a council resolution allowing it to operate and calls the closure politically motivated.
